I and my wife really wanted to live close to work and had partially identified a location of Melbourne that we were really attracted to for lifestyle benefits. Finding an apartment that would suit us best and then trying to negotiate the purchase became a nightmare.

At first we were worried that if we purchased an investment property on our limited budget, that we would be forced to buy in the poorer quality areas where the risk of rental loss and property damage from tenants is greater.
